Openers

September has arrived, and with it comes a new routine and some change to our daily schedules.  Here at Sport Central I’ve added several new classes. They can be viewed at the bottom of this newsletter.
It was mentioned, in an earlier newsletter, that I was offering  protein supplement for sale. Unfortunately there have been some problems ordering from across the border. Customs fees and shipping have increased the cost of importing these supplements.
I’ve decided to look at what’s available closer to home and have found a supplier with two brands which I will now be stocking.

Muscle Milk

This one is a very tasty meal replacement that mixes well. I’ll be offering it for $40 per tub.

Iso-Gold

This is a whey isolate protein for those who want to add more protein to their diet without the added calories. I’m also offering it for $40 per tub.

Randy Pausch

For those of you who are not familiar with Randy Pausch--he recently passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He gained a lot of attention with a speech he made, entitled, “The last lecture.” Here is his abbreviated talk as featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. It had over a million views on You Tube. Apparently, these were the last words of wisdom he shared with us before he passed on.

Fit Bits :

“Fit bits” are pieces of information pertaining to the fitness industry which I have found to be interesting, humorous or just plain ridiculous.

Nutrition Tip:

Increasing Water Intake

Drinking water can be a difficult chore at times.  Try these three proven strategies for increasing water ingestion:
1.    Drink cold water – cold water is more palatable, improving “mouth feel” and ingestion.
2.    Add lemon – lemon increases one’s desire to drink and it also kills bacteria.
3.    Chuggables – always carry some sort of jug of water around to ensure that you can keep drinking.  Rubbermaid makes a nice blue top container (Chuggables) that we recommend to our clients.

Training Tip:

Stimulate--Don’t Annihilate (Tip courtesy of Eric Cressey.com)

Never forget that you don’t have to leave the gym exhausted for the session to be considered productive. Take a 300-pound lineman, and have him run five miles; he’ll be completely exhausted by the end of the session. He’ll also be slower, more likely to get injured, and definitely more likely to want to kick your teeth in.

Business and Class Updates

If you have any suggestions for a Specialty Class you’d like to see offered, please drop me an email.

Here are the dates for some upcoming classes:

September 9th 2008 – Maki Fit

Maki Fit: Small groups and intense workouts. Take your physical conditioning to
the next level.

September 9thth 2008 – Fitness Boot Camp: 7 pm Session

September 22nd 2008 – Fitness Boot Camp: 6 am Session

Fitness Boot Camp: This isn't an ordinary boot camp. If you're up for a challenge
you'll love Fitness Boot Camp!

October 7th 2008 - Spinning

Spinning: Spinning is an aerobic exercise performed on a specially-designed
stationary bicycle called (obviously enough) a spinning bike. Spinning burns serious
calories (about 450 in 45 minutes) and offers an awesome aerobic workout that
makes your heart pump fast.

October 15th – Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga: Also known as “power yoga,” the yoga postures flow with an emphasis on strength and agility. Ashtanga yoga often appeals to the person who is already fit or desires to become fit quickly, as it usually involves a challenging physical routine. Although it has the reputation of being a demanding discipline, each pose can be modified to suit the practitioner's level of skill.

September 30th – Power Performance Camp

Power Performance Camp: This camp is for fighters, law enforcement officers, serious trainees, and 'hard-core' athletes who are looking for new, innovative ways to get stronger, improve explosive power and enhance their performance. Get stronger, bigger and faster than you have ever experienced before.
