Fit Bits:

“Fit bits” are pieces of information pertaining to the fitness industry which I have found to be interesting, humorous or just plain ridiculous.

I absolutely love to read about people who are in their 60’s, 70’s and up who still lift weights. It just goes to show that age is just a number. Personally I plan on lifting weights right up until I leave this earth, and I hope that’s in at least another 60 years.

72 Years Young

Fred Glass is 72 years old, stands 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs only 151 pounds. But he routinely hoists barbells twice as heavy -- 300 pounds, or, on a good day, 400 pounds or more -- into the air.

Nutrition Tip:

thepowerof10.jpg

The 10% Factor

If some people eat one food not on their plan, their failure to be perfect sets in motion a psychological chain of events that leads to frustration and the inability to get right back on the plan. The all-or-nothing mentality sets in and BAM, they're back to nothing. But it doesn't have to be this way. 100% nutritional discipline is never required for optimal progress. The difference, in results, between 90% adherence to your nutrition program and 100% adherence is negligible. So allow yourself the extra 10% wiggle room. This will allow you the freedom to eat a few extra things not on your menu without the guilt and subsequent crash.

Training Tip:

Lengthen Your Lunge

If you want to increase the activation of your glutes and hamstrings in the lunge take longer steps. The shorter the step, the greater the quad activation.
